The town of Melbourne Beach is the oldest beach community in Brevard County. The town was established in 1883 by a retired union general Cyrus Graves and was incorporated as a town in 1921 when Melbourne causeway bridge was built. The town currently has a population of just over 3200 and in 2007 was voted as one of the top ten best retirement places in the country.
Nearly everything in town is within walking distance or a short bike ride away. Ocean Avenue is main street for this small beach town and a focal point of the town’s history. The pier located at the west end of Ocean Avenue and Ryckman Park are favorite spots of interest for locals and visitors alike. This historic district on Ocean Avenue has a playground, tennis, basketball and several gazebos. The park hosts several annual events including Founder’s day street party and parade every May.
Living in Melbourne beach is an excellent choice and a very safe community for all. Home prices generally start at 200K for a home off the water and up to 3 million on the ocean or river.
